Longhitters forced into unwanted break – strength and unity during difficult time period

Longhitters forced into unwanted break – strength and unity during difficult time period

• 2020 REGULAR SEASON cancelled by the GLDC due to the Corona crisis

• GRAND FINAL to be held on August 15th and 16th 2020 at GolfCity in Pulheim, Cologne

Wiesbaden, March 25th

Sadly this decision came without an alternative. Due to the difficult and challenging situation brought about by the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Regular Season will be canceled. However, we remain optimistic that we will be able to host the GRAND FINAL in the middle of August close to Cologne.

„The health of all those involved is imperative to the Deutsche Golf Sport GmbH, which is why it was unreasonable to proceed with the Regular Season beginning in May. Events hosting athletes from all over Europe as well as welcoming spectators is currently not justifiable. It is disappointing for all protagonists and fans of this great event, but sensible action and the welfare of society have absolute priority during this difficult time“, says Robert Bruck, Managing Director of Deutsche Golf Sport GmbH.

Even though the Deutsche Golf Sport GmbH had been preparing the four Regular Season Events just a couple of days ago, the GRAND FINAL at GolfCity Pulheim on August 15th and 16th will now be the center of our planning process. We are striving to provide the most favorable conditions in order to enable this impressive, top-level sporting event. As in years prior, the 2020 GRAND FINAL will bring together the best male and female Longdrive athletes from all over Europe. Once again, after an emotional showdown on the final day, three spots will be awarded to the longest hitting two men and one woman. In addition to high-quality cash and non-cash prizes (depending on professional or amateur status) the spots are a very special bonus. On the journey to the GRAND FINAL, the DGS will carefully follow all regulations and recommendations made by theWorldHealthOrganization(WHO). The safety and well-being of all those involved remains our highest priority and will play a dominating part in all decisions made.

Last year, the German Longdrive Championship celebrated a successful debut, with a series of eight events, including a PRESEASON, REGULAR SEASON, and the GRAND FINAL. The GLDC is the only tournament in Germany that is officially recognized by the World Long Drive Association. For the first time, in 2019, there were two spots for the World Long Drive Championship available for the best contestants. This made the GLDC a very attractive event for long hitters throughout Europe.
